Do you Know Who made the First Dua and What was the Dua ?

The First Dua ever made was by Iblis.

Shaitan? Yes Shaitan(Iblis ) .You heard it Right.

Let us Read from Quran:

(7:12) Allah said to Iblis : ‘What prevented you from prostrating, when I commanded you to do so?’ He said: ‘I am better than he. You created me from fire, and him You created from clay.

(7:13) Allah said: ‘Then get you down from here. It does not behove you to be arrogant here. So be gone. You will be among the humiliated.’

(7:14) Satan replied: ‘Give me respite till the Day they shall be raised.’

(7:15) Allah said: ‘You are granted respite.’

(7:16) Satan said: ‘Since You have led me astray, I shall surely sit in ambush for them on Your Straight Path.

(7:17) Then I will come upon them from the front and from the rear, and from their right and from their left. And You will not find most of them thankful.

The Reason Why I am Starting with the Dua of Shaitan is because First of all We need to Know our Enemy .We need to know the Promise Shaitan made to Allah the Almighty. We need to know the Dua Shaitan made and how even his Dua was granted .

first dua ever made 2

Iblis after showing Arrogance and disobedience ,did not seek Allah’s forgiveness. What he did was that he accused Allah .Naujubillah!

Iblis accused Allah of Misguiding Him.And then he said ” ‘Since You have led me astray, I shall surely sit in ambush for them on Your Straight Path.”

What it meant is that Satan would make use of the respite granted to him until the Last Day, and he would do so in order to prove that Man did not deserve a position superior to his and this had after all been bestowed upon him by God. So doing, he would expose how ungrateful, thankless and disloyal a creature man is.

The respite asked for by Satan and granted to him by God includes not only the time but also the opportunity to mislead Man and to prove his point by appealing to man’s weaknesses. The Qur’an makes a pointed statement about this in (Banu Isra’il 17: 61-5).

(17:61) And recall when We asked the angels to prostrate themselves before Adam; all prostrated themselves except Iblis, who said: “Shall I prostrate myself before him whom You created of clay?”

(17:62) He then continued: “Look! This is he whom You have exalted above me! If you will grant me respite till the Day of Resurrection I shall uproot the whole of his progeny except only a few.”

(17:63) Thereupon He retorted: “Be gone! Hell shall be the recompense – and a most ample one – of whosoever of them who follows you.

(17:64) Tempt with your call all whom you wish. Muster against them all your forces – your cavalry and your foot soldiers; share with them riches and offspring, and seduce them with rosy promises – and Satan’s promise is nothing but a deception-

(17:65)but know well that you will have no power against My servants. Your Lord suffices for them to place their trust in.”

These verses make it clear that God had granted Satan the opportunity to try to mislead Adam and his offspring At the same time it has also been made quite clear that Satan was not granted the power to lead men into error against their will. ‘As for my servants’, says the Qur’an, ‘you shall have no power over them’ (Banu Isra’il 17: 65). Thus all that Satan can do is to cause misunderstanding, to make people cherish false illusions, to make evil and error seem atractive, and to invite people to evil ways by holding out to them the promise of immense pleasure and material benefits. He would have no power, however, to forcibly pull them to the Satanic way and to prevent them from following the Right Way. Accordingly, the Qur’an makes it quite plain elsewhere that on the Day of Judgement, Satan would address the men who had followed him in the following words: ‘I had no power over you except to call you; but you listened to me: then reproach me not, but reproach your own selves’ (Ibrahim 14: 22).

As for Satan’s allegation that God Himself caused him to fall into error see (verse 16)it is an attempt on the part of Satan to transfer the blame which fails squarely on him . Satan’s grievance seems to be that Allah was responsible for his deviation .He hurt Satan’s pride by asking him to prostrate before Adam, and that it was this which led him to disobey Allah. It is thus clear that Satan wanted to continue enjoying his vain arrogance and that he was incensed that his weakness – arrogance – was seen through and brought to full light. But shouldn’t he have asked for forgiveness instead of asking for respite?

The  Nobility and Generosity of Allah is that Allah answered the Dua of Iblis even though he was arrogant . Out Of Allah’s infinite generosity Allah answered the desperate call of the most despicable and hared Creature. So how can any one despair calling out to Allah even when the Prayer of Iblis was answered.

Dua is a part of Ibadah .Dua should me made abundantly.Yes there is destiny written for each of us but it is dua which helps us connect with Allah the Almighty. We should be submissive ,humble and in need of every goodness that Allah bestows on us.

In Sha Allah, in the Next Post of this Series  We will talk about the Second Dua .If you haven’t Subscribed yet, Do not Forget to Subscribe and if you think any one can benefit from it,do not hesitate to share .

Jazak Allah Khair.

  1. This might have been the first du’aa ever or not. Allah knows best with regards to that because there may have been other creations in the Unseen who we have no knowledge about which have made du’aas.
