Sihr (affect of evil eye)  and envy (hasad) is true with evidence from the Qur’an and Sunnah and even the Prophet peace be upon him was inflicted with sihr.

It was narrated that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: A spell was put on the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) until he imagined that he had done a thing when he had not done it. One day he made du’aa’ then he said: “Do you know that Allaah has shown me in what lies my cure? Two men came to me and one of them sat at my head and the other at my feet. One of them said to the other, ‘What is ailing the man?’ He said: ‘He has been bewitched.’ He said: “Who has bewitched him?’ He said: ‘Labeed ibn al-A’sam.’ He said, ‘With what?’ He said: ‘With a comb, the hair that is stuck to it, and the skin of pollen of a male date palm. He said: ‘Where is it?’ He said, ‘In the well of Dharwaan.’” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) went out to the well, then he came back and said to ‘Aa’ishah when he came back: “Its date palms are like the heads of devils.” I said: “Did you take it out?” He said: “No. Allaah has healed me, and I feared that that might bring evil upon the people.” Then the well was filled in. Narrated by Al-Bukhaari, Muslim

Not everyone has a pure heart and will hope for you goodness even if they may appear they do.
The closest person you trusted can be the very person who will backstab you from jealousy and envy due to their own insecurities or love for competition, superiority and other motives and reasons.

According to various traditions, different parts of the Qur’an are described to have a positive effect on an individual in terms of negating and preventing the effects of witchcraft, or for general well-being and becoming a better practicing Muslim.

Eminent Muslim scholar of the India-Pakistan sub-continent Maulana Mohammad Zakariya Ra and Allama Shah Waliullah Dahlawi collected these verses in book form, which were already in use in his family as an antidote to witchcraft. This collection is popularly referred to as Manzil.

Manzil is a collection of Ayaat and short Surahs from the Quran that are to be recited as a means of protection and antidote – Ruqya from Black Magic, Jinn,Witchcraft, Sihr, Sorcery, Evil Eye and the like as well as other harmful thing.

Hazrat [Shaykh al-Hadith Mawlana Zakariyya al-Kandhlawi’s] son, Mawlana Talha حفظه الله, mentioned in the short introduction to one copy of the Manzil – that the Manzil is actually taken from a Hadith [of] Mustadrak.

The Hadith is mentioned in the Mustadrak of Hākim (vol.4, p.413):

Ubayy ibn Ka`b رضي الله عنه said: I was with the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم when a bedouin came and said: “O Prophet of Allah, I have a brother who has a problem.”

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم asked, “And what is his problem?”

The bedouin said, “He has a slight mental derangement.”

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم told him to bring his brother to him. So the bedouin brought his brother before the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم, so he صلى الله عليه وسلم read over him:

  1. Surat al-Fatiha and the last four verses of Surat al-Baqarah.
  2. Two verses starting from: “wa ilāhukum ilāhun Wāhidun lā ilāha illa huw al-Rahmān al-Rahīm” (2:163)
  3. Ayat al-Kursi
  4. Verse from Surat Āle Imrān: “shahidallahu annahu…” ( 3:18)
  5. Verse from Surat al-A`rāf: “inna rabbakum Allah al-ladhi khalaqa al-samāwāt…” (7:54)
  6. Last verse from Surat al-Mu’minūn: “fa ta`ālā Allahu al-malik al-haqq…” (23:116)
  7. Verse from Surat al-Jinn: “wa annahu ta`ālā jaddu rabbina…“(72:3)
  8. Ten verses from the beginning of Surat al-Sāffāt (37: 1-10)
  9. Last 3 verses of Surat al-Hashr (59)
  10. Surat Ikhlas and Mu`awwadhatayn.

And when the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم read this upon him, he got up as if he never had a problem to complain about. (Mustadrak of Hākim (vol.4, p.413)

Imam Hākim says: “Shaykhān (Bukhari and Muslim) have accepted the narrators of this Hadith, except for Abu Jannab al-Kalbi. But the Hadith is Mahfūz and Sahīh…”

  1. I, Azhar Raja, write my own na’ats and recite na’at of other writers, as well. Life is nothing without the love for Allah and His Nabi Pak (SAWS). May Allah give us enough strength and power to spread the love of Rasul Pak (SAWS) to every person on this planet.
