Rabi ul Awwal and Birth of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh)

ad

The Blessed Month of Rabi ul Awwal is here. Someone very innocently asked us about History of Prophet Muhammad

Today we will talk about History of Prophet Muhammad Sallalahu alaihe wa sallam and the significance of Rabii ul Awwal in the life of Muslims. Rabiul awwal is the Blessed Month in which our dear Prophet-Prophet Muhammad SAW was born.

Let us first talk about the significance of Rabi ul Awwal and then delve into brief history of Prophet Muhammad sallalahu alaihe wa sallam.

Month of Rabi ul Awwal

Among other significant events that occured during this blessed month of Rabi-ul-Awwal is:

1. Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] was given Nubuwwat (prophethood) in this month.
2. According to many Ulama, Me’raaj [ascension to the heavens] occured in Rabi-ul-Awwal rather than Rajab.
3. Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] arrived in Madina Munawwarah after Hijrah (migration) in Rabi-ul-Awwal.
4. Rasulullah’s [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] demise was in this blessed month as well. (refer to Lataaiful Ma’arif pgs.135-136)

There are different types of Muslims, some pious and practicing and others far from Islam yet the basic level of love for  Prophet sallallaahu  alayhi wasallam is in the hearts of even those far from Deen. Having love for the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam is a part of Deen and how can a person love someone without knowing them?

Anas RA has narrated,

“None of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father, his children and all mankind.” (Bukhari)

We should therefore learn about the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam in our limited capacity and this knowledge can translate into love. In a Hadith it is mentioned;

On the day of Qiyamah the person closest to me will be the one who has sent the most Durood unto me.” (Tirmidh)

So loving the right people will mean being in the right place on the Day of Judgment. The beautiful aspect of this Hadith is to focus on not just what we do, but where we give our heart. If we give our heart to the best of creation despite being sinful people we will be in the best of company on the Day of Judgment. Love is based on something and love for the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam is based on Seerah.

We need to develop that love for him and for his Sunnah even though the Sunnah may seem strange and foreign and does not fit into society. We have to learn to love the Sunnah and we cannot have love for it if we do not have love for the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam.

History of Prophet Muhammad sallalahu alaihe wa sallam

Human beings by nature like to imitate and it happens subconsciously even though we may say we do not imitate and we are unique. So we should imitate the life of the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam and not just his actions but also how he reacted in the different situations of his life. Learning Seerah can be the therapy practically applicable in our lives.

In this age we should learn Seerah due to widespread ignorance and also anti-Islamic propaganda which surrounds us. The Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wasallam does not need defending but we should protect our Imaan and belief in him by studying Seerah and knowing the truth and we should have the right answers when negative things are said about him.

Lets Read a Beautiful Poem in Praise of Prophet Muhammad SAW

Ya habibi ya Muhammad
O my beloved, O Muhammad

Wa-alssalatu ala Muhammad

May prayers and blessings be upon Muhammad

After praising my exalted Lord

I shall bestow my blessings upon the honorable Prophet

May prayers and blessings always be raised

Upon our Prophet Muhammad

O my beloved, O Muhammad

May prayers and blessings be upon Muhammad

May prayers and blessings be widespread

And heard in the heavens and the earth

So that we may deserve it

And find the love of Muhammad

Ya habibi ya Muhammad

O my beloved O Muhammad

May prayers and blessings be upon Muhammad

Prayers that cannot be enumerated

For they are more than the rain and the sands of the sea

So that we may enter well

In supplication of Muhammad

Ya habibi ya Muhammad

O my beloved, O Muhammad

Wa-alssalatu ala Muhammad

May prayers and blessings be upon Muhammad

All hearts cannot

Name all the benedictions

Nor count the gifts

That were bestowed upon Muhammad

Ya habibi ya Muhammad

O my beloved, O Muhammad

Wa-alssalatu ala Muhammad

May prayers and blessings be upon Muhammad
