Afiyah hadith

NAbi SAW has said to make dua for Afiyah

اسْأَلُوا اللَّهَ العَفْوَ وَالعَافِيَةَ، فَإِنَّ أَحَدًا لَمْ يُعْطَ بَعْدَ اليَقِينِ خَيْرًا مِنَ العَافِيَةِ

Dua for Afiyah

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ العَفْوَ والعَافِيَةَ فِي الدُّنْيَا والآخِرَةِ

“Allahumma inni as’aluka al-‘afwa wal-‘afiyata fee ad-dunya wal-akhirah.”

Translation: “O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in this world and the Hereafter.”

What is the meaning of Afiyah?

Seek dua for Afiyah

Indeed, the blessing of good health and well-being is among the great blessings of Allah. Our Prophet (peace be upon him) used to constantly seek ‘Afiyah and advise his noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to do the same. He (peace be upon him) said, “Ask Allah for forgiveness and ‘Afiyah (well-being), for after certainty, no one is given anything better than ‘Afiyah.” [Sahih al-Bukhari]

Do you think a person can feel happiness without ‘Afiyah? Can one enjoy wealth without ‘Afiyah? Can someone find joy in status and prestige without ‘Afiyah?

Indeed, ‘Afiyah is unmatched by anything else. ‘Afiyah is the easiest clothing that a person wears, the most delicious food they taste, and the most peaceful sleep they experience.

Sayedina Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him), said, “I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, teach me something that I can ask Allah for.’ He said, ‘Ask Allah for ‘Afiyah in this world and the Hereafter.'” [Sunan al-Tirmidhi]

Al-Mubarakfuri (may Allah have mercy on him) explained the meaning of ‘Afiyah as follows: “It is Allah’s protection of the servant. The one who prays for it seeks Allah’s protection from everything they intend. In specifying this supplication for his uncle, Abbas, the Prophet (peace be upon him) intended to encourage those who aspire to maintain this supplication for all their concerns. They should consider it one of the greatest means to beseech their Lord, seeking His refuge and protection in all matters.” [Tuhfat al-Ahwadhi]

Sayedina  Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, which supplication is the best?” He (peace be upon him) replied, “Ask Allah for ‘Afiyah and protection in this world and the Hereafter.” The man came on the second day and asked the same question, and the Prophet gave the same answer. On the third day, the man asked the same question again, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) responded, “When you are granted ‘Afiyah in this world and the Hereafter, you have succeeded.” [Jami’ at-Tirmidhi]

In summary, ‘Afiyah is a comprehensive supplication that encompasses seeking Allah’s protection and well-being in all aspects of life, both in this world and the Hereafter. May Allah grant us all ‘Afiyah and protect us from harm and difficulties.
