Meaning of tawfiq
The term “Tawfiq” (توفيق) is an Arabic word
Arabic root: waaw-faa-qaaf (و-ف-ق), which means to agree or to reconcile.
In an Islamic context, “Tawfiq” is often associated with divine assistance, guidance, and success granted by Allah (God). It signifies that one has been granted the ability or opportunity to do something successfully due to Allah’s favor and blessings.
The greatest of guidance is when Allah grants someone ‘Tawfiq’ – which is a specific form
of guidance from Allah to those of His slaves whom He chooses.
O Slaves of Allah, tawfiq is a beautiful word and statement that everyone wishes for and
tawfiq here, refers to attaining goodness, truth and correctness (in affairs). Tawfiq is only
from Allah `azza wa jall as the Noble Prophet (Shu’ayb) said,
وَمَا تَوْفِيقِىٓ إِلَّا بِٱللَّهِ ۚ
wa ma tawfiqi illa billah
“…And my guidance (tawfiq) cannot come except from Allah…” [Hud: 88]
Tawfiq can refer to the facilitation or enablement of a task or action. It implies that circumstances or conditions have aligned in a way that makes it possible for someone to achieve a particular goal or perform a specific action.
Tawfiq can also signify the alignment of one’s intention and actions with a desired outcome. It suggests that one’s efforts are in harmony with their goals and that their actions are leading to a positive result.
It can represent achieving success not solely through one’s own efforts but also through the grace and blessings of Allah. In this sense, it emphasizes humility and recognition of the role of divine intervention in human affairs.
