Her First Laylatul Qadr

It was a warm summer night, and a gentle breeze whispered through the open window. Normally, Sarah would be fast asleep at this hour, lost in dreams of school, friends, and the latest trends. But tonight was different. Tonight, something stirred within her, a curiosity that tugged at her heartstrings and beckoned her to explore.

Her First Laylatul Qadr, Story of a Teenager

Quietly slipping out of bed, Sarah tiptoed down the hallway, guided by the soft glow emanating from her mother’s room. Pushing the door open ever so slightly, she peeked inside and beheld a scene that both surprised and intrigued her.

Her mother, bathed in the soft light of a solitary lamp, sat on the prayer mat, her forehead pressed against the ground in humble submission. The air was filled with the melodious recitation of the Quran, as her mother’s lips moved in silent reverence. Sarah watched in awe as her mother performed the late-night prayers, her movements fluid and graceful, her devotion palpable in the stillness of the night.

As Sarah stood in the doorway, observing her mother’s devoted worship, a question burned in her mind. She had heard about Laylatul Qadr countless times in her tafsir class, and now, witnessing her mother’s dedication, she couldn’t help but wonder if this auspicious night had finally arrived. Gathering her courage, she softly asked, “Mom, is Laylatul Qadr happening tonight?”

Her mother paused for a moment, her eyes warm with affection as she turned to her daughter. With a gentle smile, she nodded and beckoned Sarah to sit beside her. As they sat together, her mother explained the significance of Laylatul Qadr, its immense blessings, and the importance of seeking it in the last ten nights of Ramadan.

Imparting her knowledge, her mother also shared some specific dhikr (remembrance) and supplications that Sarah could engage in during this blessed night. With each word, Sarah’s heart swelled with gratitude for her mother’s guidance and the opportunity to partake in such a sacred occasion.

Feeling blessed to have such a knowledgeable and loving mentor, Sarah joined her mother in worship, her soul uplifted by the shared devotion and the wisdom passed down from generation to generation. And as they immersed themselves in prayer and remembrance, the tranquility of Laylatul Qadr enveloped them, a gentle reminder of Allah’s infinite mercy and grace.

She read Surah Al qadr,

“Indeed, We sent the Qur’an down during the Night of Decree. And what can make you know what is the Night of Decree? The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn.” (Surah Al-Qadr, 97:1-5)

As the meaning of the verses sank in, Sarah felt a sense of wonder wash over her. Here, in the stillness of the night, lay a treasure beyond measure – Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Power, a night better than a thousand months.

With newfound understanding, Sarah turned her gaze back to her mother, who continued her worship with unwavering devotion. In that moment, Sarah felt a surge of gratitude towards Allah for blessing the Muslim ummah with such a sacred night, a night filled with blessings, mercy, and divine favor.

And as the first light of dawn broke through the darkness, illuminating the world with its gentle glow, Sarah knew that this night would forever hold a special place in her heart – a night of spiritual awakening, of renewal, and of boundless blessings bestowed upon those who seek the pleasure of their Lord.
