Ibn Wahb, ุฑุญู ู ุงููู, said: โู ูุง ุชูุนููููู ูุชู ู ููู ุงููุฏูุจู ู ูุงูููู ุงููููุถููู ู ููู ุนูููู ููู What I learned from the manners of Malik was better than his knowledge.
Seeking ilm is important but soemething that is more important is adab. may Allah instill in us the adab that is desired from us. Ameen.
Malik ibn Anas, ุฑุญู ู ุงููู, said: โุชูุนููููู ู ุงูุงููุฏูุจู ููุจููู ุงูููู ุชูุชูุนููููู ู ุงููุนูููู ู Learn good manners before seeking knowledge. (Gharaฬสผib Maฬlik ibn Anas 45)
โูุงูุช ุงูู ู ุชุนู ู ูู ูุชููู ูู ุงุฐูุจ ุงููู ุฑุจูุนุฉ ูุชุนูู ู ู ุงูุฏุจู ูุจู ุนูู ู My mother would dress me up and say to me: Go to Sheikh Rabiโah and learn from his manners before his knowledge. (Tartiฬb al-Madaฬrik 1/130)
Ibn Al-Mubarak, ุฑุญู ู ุงููู, said to the people of Hadeeth: โุงููุชู ุงููููู ููููููู ู ููู ุงููุงููุฏูุจู ุงููุญูููุฌู ู ููู ุงููููู ููุซููุฑู ู ููู ุงููุนูููู ู You are in greater need of a little manners than a great deal of knowledge. (Taฬriฬkh Dimashq 32918)
Ibn Al-Mubarak said: โุทูุจุช ุงูุงูุฏุจ ุซูุงุซูู ุณูุฉ ูุทูุจุช ุงูุนูู ุนุดุฑูู ุณูุฉ ููุงููุง ูุทูุจูู ุงูุงูุฏุจ ุซู ุงูุนูู I sought manners for thirty years and I sought knowledge for twenty years. The righteous predecessors would seek manners and then seek knowledge. (Ghaฬyat al-Nihaฬyah 1/446)
Sufyan Ath-Thawri, ุฑุญู ู ุงููู, said: โููุงูู ุงูุฑููุฌููู ุงููุฐูุง ุงููุฑูุงุฏู ุงูููู ููููุชูุจู ุงููุญูุฏููุซู ุชูุงููุฏููุจู ููุชูุนูุจููุฏู ููุจููู ุฐููููู ุจูุนูุดูุฑูููู ุณูููุฉู If a man intended to write the Hadeeth, he would study good manners and worship for twenty years before doing so. (Hilyat al-Awliyaฬ 361)
Al-Laith ibn Saโd, ุฑุญู ู ุงููู, said to the people of Hadeeth: โุชูุนููููู ููุง ุงููุญูููู ู ููุจููู ุงููุนูููู ู Learn forbearance before seeking knowledge. (Jaฬmiโ Bayaฬn al-โIlm 581)
Az-Zuhri, ุฑุญู ู ุงููู, said: โูููููุง ููุงููุชูู ุงููุนูุงููู ู ููู ูุง ููุชูุนููููู ู ู ููู ุงููุฏูุจููู ุงููุญูุจูู ุงููููููููุง ู ููู ุนูููู ููู We would come to a scholar and what we learned from his manners was more beloved to us than his knowledge. (Hilyat al-Awliyaฬ 4575)
