What is a dua for entering a mosque?

The dua for entering the masjid is an expression of gratitude and intention. It’s a way of humbling ourselves before Allah and seeking His blessings as we step into a place dedicated to His worship.

Dua for entering Masjid is to establish a direct connection with Allah. It’s a moment of humility and submission, where we recognize our dependence on Him for every step we take. The words of the dua echo our desire to immerse ourselves in His mercy and seek His guidance in all aspects of life.

As we enter a Mosque, We can read these 3 Recommended dua of entering masjid. The first is seeking protection from shaitan, the second is seeking Allah’s mercy and blessing and guidance as we enter the mosque and the third is sending salawat upon Rasul Allah sallalahu alaihe wa sallam.

Dua #1-Dua for entering Masjid

 أعوذُ باللهِ العظيمِ وبوجهِه الكريمِ وسلطانِه القديمِ من الشيطانِ الرجيمِ

Transliteration: “A’udhu billahi al-‘Azeem wa bi wajhihi al-Kareem wa sultaanihi al-Qadeem min ash-shaytan ir-rajim.”

Translation: “I seek refuge in Allah, the Almighty, and by His noble countenance, and His eternal authority, from the accursed Satan.”

Dua #2-Dua for entering Masjid

 بسمِ اللهِ، اللهمَّ صلِّ على محمدٍ، و أزواجِ محمدٍ

Bismillah, Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin, wa azwaji Muhammad.”

‘In the name of Allah. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the wives of Muhammad.'”

Narrated Anas bin Malik – may Allah be pleased with him – on the authority of the Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and grant him peace -:’In the name of Allah. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the wives of Muhammad.'”

Dua #3-Dua for entering Masjid

As we approach the masjid, a sense of reverence should fill our hearts. We are about to enter a place where Allah’s name is mentioned abundantly, and where souls are nourished through prayer and reflection. Before entering, take a moment to pause and recite the dua: “Bismillahi wassalatu wassalamu ala Rasulillah. Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik.” This translates to: “In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open the doors of Your mercy for me.”

 اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

With this dua, we seek Allah’s mercy, blessings, and guidance as we step into His house. It’s a reminder that the masjid is not just a physical structure, but a sacred space where we connect with our Creator and seek His guidance.

Dua #4-Dua for entering Masjid mentioned in Tirmidhi

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

“Rabbi-ghfir li dhunoobi waftah li abwaba rahmatika.”

My Lord, forgive me my sins, and open to me the gates of Thy mercy.”

Fatima daughter of al-Husain said on the authority of her grand-mother, Fatima the elder,* that when the Prophet entered the mosque he would pray for blessings and safety for himself and say, “My Lord, forgive me my sins, and open to me the gates of Thy mercy.” And when he went out he would pray for blessings and safety for himself and say, “My Lord, forgive me my sins, and open to me the gates of Thy abundance.”

Quranic verses related to entering masjid

The Quran emphasizes the importance of masjids and the act of entering them with humility and reverence. Allah says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:114): “And who are more unjust than those who prevent the name of Allah from being mentioned in His mosques and strive toward their destruction. It is not for them to enter them except in fear. For them in this world is disgrace, and they will have in the Hereafter a great punishment.”

Who does more wrong than those who prevent Allah’s Name from being mentioned in His places of worship and strive to destroy them? Such people have no right to enter these places except with fear.For them is disgrace in this world, and they will suffer a tremendous punishment in the Hereafter. (Quran:2:114)

Dua for purifying the heart in the mosque

اللَّهُمَّ مُصَرِّفَ الْقُلُوبِ صَرِّفْ قُلُوبَنَا عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ ‏.

“Allahumma musarrifal-qulubi, sarrif qulubana ‘ala ta’atika ”.

“O Allah, the Turner of the hearts, turn our hearts to Your obedience.”

Dua for coming out from Masjid

«رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذُنُوبِي وَافْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ فَضْلِكَ “

“My Lord, forgive me my sins, and open to me the gates of Thy abundance.”

Etiquette in the Masjid

1. Maintain Humility: The masjid is a place of humility and submission. When entering, leave behind any sense of arrogance or pride. Approach with a humble heart, knowing that you are in the presence of Allah.
2. Enter Silently: When entering the masjid, do so quietly and with respect for those engaged in prayers or recitation. Loud footsteps or conversations can disrupt the peaceful environment.
3. Shoe Removal: Before entering the main prayer area, remove your shoes as a sign of respect for the sacred space. Place them neatly in designated areas.
4. Facing Qiblah: When choosing a spot to sit, face the direction of the Qiblah (the Kaaba in Mecca). This signifies your alignment with the center of Islamic worship.
5. Avoid Distractions: Refrain from using electronic devices or engaging in conversations that are not related to worship. The masjid is a place of focus and devotion.
6. Preferred Positions: It is Sunnah to sit on the floor in a manner known as “Tashahhud position” – with your knees bent and your right foot under the left, resting on the toes. However, if this is uncomfortable due to health reasons, sitting cross-legged is also acceptable.
7. Avoid Raising Voices: Whether you’re speaking to someone or reciting Quranic verses, keep your voice at a respectful and subdued level. This maintains the atmosphere of serenity.
8. Greet Peace: If someone greets you with “Assalamu Alaikum,” respond with “Wa Alaikum Assalam.” This gesture spreads peace and goodwill.
9. Engage in Dhikr: While sitting, engage in quiet remembrance of Allah. Recite tasbih (subhanAllah, alhamdulillah, Allahu akbar), seek forgiveness, and send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad.
10. Avoid Idle Talk: Engaging in frivolous or idle conversation takes away from the reverence of the masjid. Focus on meaningful discourse related to Islam or engage in silent worship.
11. Stay Seated After Prayer: After performing obligatory prayers, it’s encouraged to stay seated for additional voluntary supplications and remembrance.
12. Avoid Blocking Aisles: Choose a place to sit that doesn’t obstruct pathways or create inconvenience for other worshipers.
13. Listen Attentively: If there’s a lecture, sermon, or Quranic recitation, listen attentively. These moments provide opportunities for spiritual growth and learning.
14. Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure personal hygiene and cleanliness before entering the masjid. Use the restroom facilities before the prayer to avoid disruptions.
15. Depart Gracefully: When leaving, do so quietly and without disturbing others. Express gratitude to Allah for the time spent in His house.
16. Reflect on Purpose: As you sit in the masjid, take a moment to reflect on the purpose of your presence – to connect with Allah, seek His guidance, and attain spiritual elevation.
