Hadith on the importance of reading Surah Al Kahf on Friday

It is recommended to recite Surat al-Kahf completely the night before Friday, and it is also recommended to do so Friday itself, before Maghrib time. Ibn Abidin said, “And it is best to do so early on Friday, in order to rush to the good and to avoid forgetting.” [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar, Bab al-Jumu`ah]

Hadith on reading Surah Al Kahf on Friday April 4, 2024

Surah al Kahf shows us the mirror of reality of life. Allah subhana ta’ala says in Surah al Kahf,

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا مَا عَلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ زِينَةًۭ لَّهَا لِنَبْلُوَهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًۭا ٧

“Lahaa linabluwahum ayyuhum ahsanu amalaa in kahf.”

We have indeed made whatever is on earth as an adornment for it, in order to test which of them is best in deeds.

“Inna ja’alna ma ‘ala al-ardhi zeenatan laha li-nabluwahum ayyuhum ahsanu ‘amala.” (Surah Al-Kahf, 18:7)

Allah swt then says, That is how We caused them to be discovered so that their people might know that Allah’s promise ˹of resurrection˺ is true and that there is no doubt about the Hour.

Hadith on reading Surah Al Kahf on Friday

There are saheeh ahaadeeth from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) concerning the virtues of reciting Soorat al-Kahf during the day or night of Jumu’ah (Friday). These include following Surah Kahf Ahadees

1. From Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri, who said: “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the night of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will stretch between him and the Ancient House (the Ka’bah).”(Narrated by al-Daarimi, 3407. This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami, 6471)

2. “Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, will have a light that will shine from him from one Friday to the next.”(Narrated by al-Haakim, 2/399; al-Bayhaqi, 3/249. Ibn Hajar said in Takhreej al-Adhkaar that this is a hasan hadeeth, and he said, this is the strongest report that has been narrated concerning reading Soorat al-Kahf. See: Fayd al-Qadeer, 6/198. It was classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 6470)

3.It was narrated that Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘Whoever reads Soorat al-Kahf on the day of Jumu’ah, a light will shine for him from beneath his feet to the clouds of the sky, which will shine for him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will be forgiven (his sins) between the two Fridays.’”Al-Mundhiri said, this was narrated by Abu Bakr ibn Mardawayh in his Tafseer, with an isnaad with which there was nothing wrong.(al-Targheeb wa’l-Tarheeb, 1/298)

Abu al-Darda’ reported the prophet (ﷺ) as saying :If anyone memorises ten verses from the beginning of surat al-Kahf, he will be protected from the trial of Dajjal (Antichrist).Abu Dawud said: In this way Hashim al-dastawa’I transmitted it from Qatadah, but he said : “If anyone memorizes the closing verses of surat al-Kahf.” Shu’bah narrated from Qatadah the words “from the end of al-Kahf.(Sunan Abi Dawud 4323)

So, Make it a habit to Recite Surah Kahf every friday. May Allah give us to do taufeeq on this Amal. Ameen.

  1. Read this sura and the sins you commit between two Friday’s will be forgiven? Can this be believed? Would our Prophet really have said this ? No, this is a fake assurance by the satan to misguide Muslims from the right path. And satan is an enemy to mankind. In the duration between two Fridays you are to pray seven Fajr, seven zohr, seven ASR, seven Magrib and seven Isha prayers at their correct times, otherwise you are a sinner. As a Muslim, you are under duty not to lie, cheat in business or be corrupt in your dealings, not to do sexual transgressions and many other duties as imposed by Allah, otherwise you are a sinner. Can all these strenuous duties be avoided just by reciting a sura that takes twenty minutes? Would our Prophet pbuh have really said this? Another fake Hadees. The Quran hasn’t classified its Surat as very important, important or less important, everything is revealed by Allah,
These assurances are clearly from the satan who is an enemy to mankind.
