What is Tasbih?

Tasbih is azkar that is repeated certain number of times. The tasbih is a means to do dhikr. It is a means to glorify Allah subhana ta’ala.

It is from word سَبَحَ, which means “to be above”

سُبْحَـٰنَ ٱللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Glorified is Allah far above what they claim!

Doing Tasbih of 100 on Fingers

Abdullah ibn ‘Amr radi allahu anhu said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah sallalahu alaihe wa sallam counting the tasbīh.” Ibn Qudāmah (the narrator) said: “With his right hand.” (Abū Dāwūd)

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said: “Count on your fingers, for they will be asked, and will be made to
speak.” (Tirmidhī)

Although it is Sunnah to use the hand for counting, one may use other means such as prayer beads or a
tasbīh counter.
