We read Attahiyat dua in every prayer. When we read our salah, we should know the meaning of the dua as well.

Here is transliteration of the dua attahiyat and word by word translation which can help you memorise attahiyat Dua.

Here is the Attahiyat in Arabic text,

التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، السَّلاَمُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

At-tahiyyatu Lillahi wa-salawatu wa’t-tayyibat, as-salamu ‘alayka ayyuha’n-Nabiyyu wa rahmat-Allahi wa barakatuhu. As-salamu ‘alayna wa ‘alaa ‘ibad-Illah is-saliheen. ashhadu alla ilaha illallah wa ashhadu anna muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluhu

Meaning

“All the best compliments and the prayers and the good things are for Allah. Peace and Allah’s Mercy and Blessings be on you, O prophet! Peace be on us and on the pious slaves of Allah, I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and I also testify that Muhammad is Allah’s slave and His Apostle.”

Abdullah (b. Mas`ud) said:

In the company of the Prophet (PBUH), we would chant, “Peace be upon Allah, Peace be upon so and so” as we prayed behind him. We were once told by Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) that Allah is Himself and that He is Peaceful. Therefore, you should say, “All services performed by words and deeds of worship and all good things are due to Allah” whenever one of you sits during the prayer.”

Allah’s mercy and blessings are upon you, O Prophet. Whenever Allah says this, it reaches every righteous servant in the universe, including those in the heavens and Earth. I swear that Muhammad is a servant and Messenger of Allah, and I attest that there is no God but Allah. Then he can make whatever supplication he wishes.

Dua after Attahiyat is -Darood Sharif

“اللّهم صلِّ على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما صليت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم، إنك حميد مجيد، اللّهم بارك على محمد وعلى آل محمد كما باركت على إبراهيم وعلى آل إبراهيم، إنك حميد مجيد”

“allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammadin kama sallaita ‘ala Ibrahim wa ‘ala ali Ibrahim, innaka Hamidun Majid. Allahumma barik ‘ala Muhammadin wa ‘ala ali Muhammadin kama barakta ‘ala Ibrahim wa ‘ala ali Ibrahim, innaka Hamidun Majid.”

Translation:

“O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, bestow Your favor on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad as You bestowed Your favor on Ibrahim and on the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed Praiseworthy and Glorious.”
