1. Jahannam (ุฌู‡ู†ู…)

  • The most common name for Hell in the Qurโ€™an.
  • Reference:
    • โ€œIndeed, Jahannam has been lying in wait.โ€ย (Surah An-Naba 78:21)

2. Jaแธฅฤซm (ุงู„ุฌุญูŠู…)ย โ€“ The Blazing Fire

  • Refers to the intense heat and blazing flames.
  • Reference:
    • โ€œAnd they will [enter to] burn in al-Jaแธฅฤซm.โ€ย (Surah As-Saffat 37:55)

3. Saสฟฤซr (ุงู„ุณุนูŠุฑ)ย โ€“ The Burning Fire

  • A fire that is kindled and blazing.
  • Reference:
    • โ€œAnd they will burn in a Saสฟฤซr.โ€ย (Surah Al-Mulk 67:5)

4. Saqar (ุณู‚ุฑ)ย โ€“ The Scorching Fire

  • A name for Hell meaning โ€œto scorchโ€ and destroy.
  • Reference:
    • โ€œI will drive him into Saqar. And what can make you know what Saqar is? It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned].โ€ย (Surah Al-Muddaththir 74:26-28)

5. Laแบ“ฤ (ู„ุธู‰)ย โ€“ The Blaze

  • A blazing flame that strips away everything.
  • Reference:
    • โ€œNo! Indeed, it is a Flame (Laแบ“ฤ), A remover of exteriors.โ€ย (Surah Al-Maสฟฤrij 70:15-16)

6. แธคuแนญamah (ุงู„ุญุทู…ุฉ)ย โ€“ The Crusher / Breaker

  • From the root โ€œto crush,โ€ meaning it crushes and breaks everything thrown into it.
  • Reference:
    • โ€œAnd what can make you know what al-แธคuแนญamah is? It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled.โ€ย (Surah Al-Humazah 104:5-6)

7. Hฤwiyah (ู‡ุงูˆูŠุฉ)ย โ€“ The Pit / Abyss

  • A deep abyss into which the sinner falls.
  • Reference:
    • โ€œBut as for he whose scales are light, his refuge will be an abyss (Hฤwiyah). And what can make you know what that is? It is a Fire, intensely hot.โ€ย (Surah Al-Qariสฟah 101:8-11)
