Bristol schoolgirl Fahma Mohamed wins award for FGM awareness campaign
A teenager from Bristol, Fahma Mohamed ย has become one of the youngest doctorate holders in the city โ before she has gone to university. Then just 14 years old, Fahma Mohamed bravely spoke out about the horrific acts of FGM in Britain and violence against girls.
You would think Fahma Mohamed would be outspoken and loud, but she admitted she was once โshyโ and โreservedโ.
The former Weston College student, who is finishing her gap year before university, told the Bristol Post she was honoured to receive the doctorate.โI couldnโt believe it when the university told me,โ she said.โI had just started school at City Academy where Lisa Zimmerman (from Integrate Bristol) was my English teacher at that time.โWe kept hearing about the charity and the work that was done there, but I had no idea what FGM was. I was even more shocked it was practised in Bristol โ in Britain.โIt was such a taboo subject that no one talked about it.โI knew then I wanted to get involved with the charity. I was quite shy and reserved at first, but they helped me grow into it.โI kept thinking about how helpless the girls [victims] were feeling and that was what motivated me to keep going.โFahma Mohamed , who met UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said she received the award on behalf of all the young people who worked within the organisation, Integrate Bristol. This is an independent website by a Female scholar. If you benefit from our articles, Help our Projects by buying our Worksheets (Link1) or (Link2) or removing ads.
