Harvard University is Offering a Course to teach  the Quran, the central sacred text of Islam, through an exploration of the rich diversity of roles and interpretations in Muslim societies.

About this course

How can you improve your understanding of Islam and its most important holy text, the Quran? How can you make sense of a tradition and a text that have been interpreted in different ways across vast geographical spaces for nearly a millennium and a half?

Using a multimedia and student-centered approach, this religion course provides tools and perspectives for understanding the role of the Quran in the Islamic tradition. Learners will develop the skills and context to read the text themselves, while also being introduced to some of the issues classical and contemporary interpreters have addressed. This approach enables learners to explore the influence of the Quran on diverse Muslim understandings of Islam.

No previous knowledge of Islam or Religious Studies is required.

This course is part of the World Religions Through Their Scriptures XSeries Program.It is a 4 week long course with a 3-5 hours lecture Per Week.

  • An introduction to the place of the Quran in Muslim cultures
  • Major themes of the Quran
  • The historical and cultural contexts of the Quran
  • Interpretive skills that enable a more nuanced reading of the Quran
  • Diverse approaches Muslims have adopted to engaging with Quranic texts, including issues in contemporary interpretation

Muazzen passes away waiting for adhan(Video)

The Muadhin of Masjid Al-Sulaimani in Jeddah has passed away whilst waiting to call the Adhan for Fajr prayers. Inna lillahe Wa inna ilaehi rajeun. 60-year-old Abdul Haq al Halabi was sitting reciting the Qur’an and passed away with just minutes left before the time of Adhan. The deceased muezzin, who has two sons, Khaldun and Anas, and three daughters, spent 40 years of his life in Saudi Arabia  and he was known to frequent the mosque and was often seen reciting the Qur’an. May Allah grant him Jannah. The deceased was praised for his efforts in helping pilgrims during his life. His live culminated with dedicating the last three years in his life with serving the mosque and worshippers, as well as calling for the adhan. May Allah grant him jannah.
