Day 14 – Reflecting on Allah’s Names: Al-Hasib, Al-Jalil, Al-Karim

There are moments in life when I feel unnoticed—when my efforts seem to go unappreciated, my struggles feel unseen, and my heart longs for recognition. But then I remember that Allah sees everything, He values every action, and He gives without limit.

Today, I want to reflect on three of His beautiful names:

  • Al-Hasib (ٱلْحَسِيبُ) – The Reckoner
  • Al-Jalil (ٱلْجَلِيلُ) – The Majestic
  • Al-Karim (ٱلْكَرِيمُ) – The Most Generous

These names remind me that Allah is the One who takes account of everything, He is the source of all honor, and He is the most generous in giving.

Al-Hasib (ٱلْحَسِيبُ) – The Reckoner

The name Al-Hasib comes from the root “ḥ-s-b” (ح س ب) which means to reckon, to suffice, and to take account. Allah is the One who keeps record of every single action, every unspoken intention, and every tear that falls.

“And sufficient is Allah as the Reckoner.”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:6)

Allazeena yuballighoona Risaalaatil laahi wa yakhshaw nahoo wa laa yakkhshawna ahadan illal laah; wa kafaa billaahi Haseebaa
“[Allah praises] those who convey the messages of Allah and fear Him and do not fear anyone but Allah. And sufficient is Allah as Accountant.”— (Qur’an 33:39)

How often do I feel unnoticed when I try to do good? How many times have I given without receiving anything in return? Al-Hasib reminds me that no effort goes unnoticed by Allah. He is keeping count, and He will reward even the smallest good deed.

Reflection:

  • How does knowing that Allah is the Ultimate Reckoner help you stay sincere in my actions?

Al-Jalil (ٱلْجَلِيلُ) – The Majestic

The name Al-Jalil comes from the root “j-l-l” (ج ل ل) which means to be great, magnificent, and beyond compare. Allah is Al-Jalil—the One whose majesty cannot be described, whose greatness is beyond human comprehension.

“Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor.”
(Surah Ar-Rahman 55:78)

Sometimes, I stand in awe of the beauty of the world—the vastness of the sky, the depth of the oceans, the perfection of creation. But all of it is just a reflection of Allah’s majesty. He is the One who deserves all honor, all respect, and all glorification.

Reflection:

  • When was the last time you truly reflected on Allah’s greatness and majesty?

Al-Karim (ٱلْكَرِيمُ) – The Most Generous

The name Al-Karim comes from the root “k-r-m” (ك ر م) which means to be noble, kind, and exceedingly generous. Allah is the One who gives without limit, without expectation, and without restriction.

“O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Most Generous?”
(Surah Al-Infitar 82:6)

There are moments when I feel undeserving—when I reflect on my mistakes and shortcomings. But Al-Karim gives even when I don’t deserve, forgives even when I forget to ask, and blesses me in ways I don’t even realize. His generosity is endless, and His kindness is unmatched.

Reflection:

  • How can we embody the generosity of Al-Karim in my own life?
  • Have we taken the time to truly appreciate all that Allah has given us?

Final Thoughts

These names of Allah bring a deep sense of comfort to my heart:

  • Al-Hasib reassures me that every effort, every struggle, and every good deed is recorded. Nothing is wasted.
  • Al-Jalil reminds me that Allah’s majesty is beyond comprehension, and He alone deserves my full devotion.
  • Al-Karim teaches me that Allah’s generosity knows no limits, and He blesses me in ways I don’t even recognize.

Ya Allah, You are Al-Hasib, the One who sees and values all that I do. You are Al-Jalil, the source of all honor and majesty. You are Al-Karim, the One who gives beyond measure. Keep my heart firm in Your remembrance and help me to reflect Your beautiful qualities in my own life.

Today, I want to whisper these names in my duas, hold onto their meanings, and let them bring peace to my heart. Which of these names speaks to you the most today?
