Day 7: Reflecting on the Names of Allah – Al-Alim, Al-Qabid, Al-Basit

Today, I feel my heart finding peace in knowing that everything in my life—every joy, every hardship—is under His divine knowledge and control. Today, I ponder on three names of Allah that remind me of His infinite wisdom, His ability to withhold, and His power to expand.

Al-Alim – The All-Knowing

There were moments when I thought why certain things happen in my life—why some duas seemed unanswered, why some paths were blocked, why some hardships persist. But then I reflect on this beautiful name- Al-Alim, the One whose knowledge has no limits. I realised that He knows what is best for me, even when I do not.

“And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it…” (Quran 6:59)

When I reflect on this name, I feel a deep sense of trust. Al-Alim knows the past, present, and future. He knows my struggles, my silent tears, and the hidden intentions in my heart. I may not understand His wisdom now, but I know that every decree from Al-Alim is filled with mercy.

Al-Qabid – The Withholder

There are times in life when I feel stuck—when opportunities seem far, when wealth decreases, or when hardships weigh me down. In those moments, I remind myself that Al-Qabid is the One who withholds, and He does so with wisdom. Sometimes, what I desire is not good for me. Sometimes, through deprivation, He brings me closer to Him.

“Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts it. Indeed, He is Knowing of all things.” (Quran 29:62)

This name teaches me patience. When something is withheld from me, I trust that there is a reason. Maybe it’s a test, maybe it’s protection, or maybe it’s preparing me for something greater.And I make dua to Allah to increase my provision because it is only Allah who gives.

Al-Basit – The Extender

Just as Al-Qabid withholds, Al-Basit expands. He opens doors, increases provisions, and grants ease after difficulty. When I experience joy, success, or unexpected blessings, I know it is Al-Basit who has granted them.

“And if Allah were to enlarge the provision for His servants, they would surely rebel in the earth; but He sends it down in due measure as He wills. Truly, He is Well-Aware and All-Seeing of His servants.” (Quran 42:27)

This name reminds me to be grateful. Everything I have—my health, my opportunities, my rizq—is a gift from Al-Basit. He knows exactly when to withhold and when to give. My role is to trust His timing and remain thankful in every situation. I make dua to Al Basit to increase my provision and make me free from needing anyone but him.

Final Reflection

These names remind me that Allah is The All-Knowing (Al-Alim), The One Who Withholds (Al-Qabid), and The One Who Expands (Al-Basit). Every gain and every loss in my life is part of His divine plan.

Ya Al-Alim, grant me wisdom to trust in Your perfect knowledge.

Ya Al-Qabid, help me remain patient when things are withheld from me.

Ya Al-Basit, bless me with abundance and ease in both this life and the next.
