Things to do before sleep: Sunnah before going to sleep
Do you want to be rewarded whilst you sleep? Here are 5 things to do before going to sleep which can earn us immense rewards.
Please note that there are many duas and many other sunnah can be added to the list. The below list have been compiled with reference to authentic hadiths from Sahih al Bukhari
5 Sunnah before going to sleep
- Make wudu before sleeping
- Read Masnun dua and Tasbih fatima
- Recite 4 Qul and blow in your hands and wipe over your body
- Clean your bed
- Lie down on Right side and Place your Right hand below cheek

Is it Sunnah to dust off the bed before sleeping?
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (๏ทบ) said, โWhen anyone of you goes to bed, he should dust it off thrice with the edge of his garment, and say: Bismika Rabbi Wada`tu janbi, wa bika arfaโhu. In amsakta nafsi faghfir laha, wa in arsaltaha fahfazha bima tahfaz bihi โibadaka-s-salihin.โ(Sahih al-Bukhari 7393)

Sunnah before going to sleep
If you read this dua before sleep and if you die on that very night, you will die with faith (i.e. or the religion of Islam).

โAllahumma aslamtu wajhi ilaika, wa fauwadtu `Amri ilaika, wa aljaโtu Zahri ilaika raghbatan wa rahbatan ilaika. La Maljaโa wa la manja minka illa ilaika. Allahumma amantu bikitabika-l-ladhi anzalta wa bina-biyika-l ladhi arsaltaโ
(O Allah! I surrender to You and entrust all my affairs to You and depend upon You for Your Blessings both with hope and fear of You. There is no fleeing from You, and there is no place of protection and safety except with You O Allah! I believe in Your Book (the Qurโan) which You have revealed and in Your Prophet (Muhammad) whom You have sent).

The Prophet (๏ทบ) said to me, โWhenever you go to bed perform ablution like that for the prayer, lie or your right side and say, โAllahumma aslamtu wajhi ilaika, wa fauwadtu `Amri ilaika, wa aljaโtu Zahri ilaika raghbatan wa rahbatan ilaika. La Maljaโa wa la manja minka illa ilaika.
Allahumma amantu bikitabika-l-ladhi anzalta wa bina-biyika-l ladhi arsaltaโ (O Allah! I surrender to You and entrust all my affairs to You and depend upon You for Your Blessings both with hope and fear of You. There is no fleeing from You, and there is no place of protection and safety except with You O Allah! I believe in Your Book (the Qurโan) which You have revealed and in Your Prophet (Muhammad) whom You have sent).
Then if you die on that very night, you will die with faith (i.e. or the religion of Islam). Let the aforesaid words be your last utterance (before sleep).โ I repeated it before the Prophet (๏ทบ) and when I reached โAllahumma amantu bikitabika-l-ladhi anzalta (O Allah I believe in Your Book which You have revealed).โ I said, โWa-rasulika (and your Apostle).โ The Prophet (๏ทบ) said, โNo, (but say): โWanabiyika-l-ladhi arsalta (Your Prophet whom You have sent), instead.โ(Sahih al-Bukhari 247)
What is the best position to sleep in Islam?
Sleep on your Right side and put your right hand under your cheek.
Do not sleep on your belly:
Yaโish bin Tikhfah Al-Ghifari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:My father said: I was lying down on my belly in the mosque when someone shook me with his foot and said, โLying down this way is disapproved by Allah.โ I looked up and saw that it was Messenger of Allah (๏ทบ).: (Riyad as-Salihin 817)
Is sleeping with your hand a good idea in Islam?
Yes, Hand provides height just as pillow and it is a sunnah too.
Al-Baraโ bin `Azib (ra) narrated that:The Messenger of Allah (๏ทบ) used to lay his head upon his right hand when going to sleep, then say: โMy Lord, safeguard me from Your punishment the Day You resurrect Your slaves (Rabbi qinฤซ `adhฤbaka yawma tab`athu `ibฤdak).โ(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3399)

Why should you sleep on the right side?
Sleeping on Right side is sunnah. Sleeping on right keeps the heart and mind active. Medically, Sleeping on the right side may be beneficial to those suffering from digestive issues. A 2003 study found that sleeping on the right side can help people with heart conditions.The right side of sleeping also helps to stabilize blood pressure and heart rate.
Right side sleeping can help improve circulation, reduce snoring, and ease back pain. It can also help prevent acid reflux and heartburn. If you are pregnant, sleeping on your right side can also help improve blood flow to your baby.
Tasbih Fatima before sleep
- โSubhan Allahโ thirty three times,
- โAl hamduli l-lahโ thirty three times, and
- โAllahu Akbarโ thirty four times.
Narrated `Ali bin Abi Talib:Fatima came to the Prophet (๏ทบ) asking for a servant. He said, โMay I inform you of something better than that? When you go to bed, recite โSubhan Allahโ thirty three times, โAl hamduli l-lahโ thirty three times, and โAllahu Akbarโ thirty four times. `Ali added, โI have never failed to recite it ever since.โ Somebody asked, โEven on the night of the battle of Siffin?โ He said, โEven on the night of the battle of Siffin.โ(Sahih al-Bukhari 5362)
Recite 4 Qul and blow in your hands and wipe over your body
Narrated `Aisha:Whenever Allahโs Messenger (๏ทบ) went to bed, he used to blow on his hands while reciting the Muโauwidhat ( i.e. Suratal-Falaq 113 and Surat-an-Nas 114) and then pass his hands over his body.( Sahih al-Bukhari 6319)
