Jazak Allah khair is what you say to someone who does you a favour.

Thank you in arabic : Jazakallah

Usama b. Zaid reported Allah’s Messenger as saying, “If one is done a kindness and expresses to his benefactor a desire that God may give him a good reward, he has fully expressed his commendation. ”This is a sahih hadith in Tirmidhi sharif.

So When some one does good to us why not say جزاك الله خيرًا instead of Thank you? This prayer may be one of the reasons for his happiness in this world and the Hereafter and you may get a reward of reviving a Sunnah and making dua for your brother/sister.

Jazak Allah Khair is a phrase we myslim use for gratitude and acknowledgment.

Jazak Allah khair in Arabic

جَزاكَ اللهُ خَـيْراً

jazak allahu khair meaning:

جَزاكَ اللهُ خَـيْراً Jazak Allah Khairan means”May Allah reward you with good.”

Grammar Rule of جَزاكَ اللهُ خَـيْراً:

The phrase جَزاكَ اللهُ خَـيْراً has its linguistic roots in classical Arabic, reflecting the eloquence and richness of the Arabic language. The word “جَزاكَ ” is derived from the root word “jaza,” meaning “to recompense” or “to reward,” while “خَـيْراً ” signifies “goodness” or “good deeds.” When combined, the phrase encapsulates the profound sentiment of wishing for Allah’s blessings and rewards upon others.

جَزا “Jazaa/ جَزا “means: “to reward, recompense” 
كَ “K/ كَ “: is for attribution to a second person, meaning: “to you”
اللهُAllah
هُ“H هُ ” is used when attributing to a third person, as in: “JazaaHullaahu Kahiran ” (May Allaah reward him with good).
خَـيْراً  “Khairan خَـيْراً” is from the word “Khair” which means: “good”

This is asking Allaah for goodness in abundance for your brother/sister in Islam. The goodness which is from Allaah, without measure, which will bring him/her happiness in this world and in the Hereafter.

عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ “‏مَنْ صُنِعَ إِلَيْهِ مَعْرُوفٌ فَقَالَ لِفَاعِلِهِ جَزَاكَ اللَّهُ خَيْرًا فَقَدْ أَبْلَغَ فِي الثَّنَاءِ‏”‏

Usamah bin Zaid narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever some good was done to him, and he says: jazakAllah Khayran (‘May Allah reward you in goodness’) then he has done the most that he can of praise.”

How to say Jazak Allah Khair?

Jazakhallah, Jazkillah, and Jasakumullah all imply the same thing, These are few ways in which you can hear people saying it and

When saying Jazakallah Khair to a male,sayJazaak-Allaahu Khairan/Khair: جَزاكَ اللهُ خَـيْراً
When saying Jazakallah Khair to a female,sayJazaakillaahu Khairan/Khair : جَزاكِ اللهُ خَـيْراً
When saying Jazakallah Khair to a group,say Jazakum Allahu Khairan : : جَزاكم اللهُ خَـيْراً

Jazak Allah khair Reply

It is important to note that responding to “Jazak Allah Khair” is equally significant. One common response is “Wa Iyyak” or “Wa Iyyakum,” which translates to “and to you (plural).” This reciprocal exchange of gratitude fosters a culture of mutual appreciation and reinforces the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood within the Muslim ummah. You can also respond by saying,

  • BarakAllahu feekum بارك الله فيكم
  • BarakaAllahu feek(i) : بارك الله فيك

بارك الله فيكم means May Allah bless you

You can also reply to Jazak Allah khair by saying wa iyyaka (to male) and wa iyyaki (for female), wa iyyakum (to more than 1). This simply implies, and to you as well.

Wa Antum fa Jazakumullahu khayran is a more formal answer that meaning “May Allah reward you with Goodness as well

عَنْ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏-{ “مَنْ صُنِعَ إِلَيْهِ مَعْرُوفٌ, فَقَالَ لِفَاعِلِهِ: جَزَاكِ اَللَّهُ خَيْراً.‏ فَقَدْ أَبْلَغَ فِي اَلثَّنَاءِ” } أَخْرَجَهُ اَلتِّرْمِذِيُّ, وَصَحَّحَهُ اِبْنُ حِبَّانَ 1‏ .‏
‏1 ‏- صحيح.‏ رواه الترمذي ( 2035 )‏، وابن حبان ( 3404 )‏ وقال الترمذي: ” هذا حديث حسن جيد غريب”.‏

2. Narrated Usama bin Zaid (RA):Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said. “If one is done a kindness and [expresses his gratitude] to his benefactor by saying ‘May Allah give you a good reward’, he has fully expressed his appreciation.” [at-Tirmidhi reported it, and Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih (authentic)].

قال عمر بن الخطاب «لو يعلم أحدكم ما له في قوله لأخيه : جزاك الله خيرا ، لأَكثَرَ منها بعضكم لبعض»

3. Umar Ibn al-Khattaab said:”If one of you knew what there is in his saying to his brother: ‘Jazak Allaahu Khairan’, you would say it a great deal to one another.” [Reported in Musannaf Ibn Abee Shai ah (5/322)]
