Mawadah Muhtasib,creates 1st reversed Arabic calligraphy typeface.

Mawadah Muhtasib has generated international intrigue in the art of Arabic by creating the first reversed Arabic calligraphy, or calligraffiti, typeface.

Mawadah’s contemporary Arabic typeface has been embraced by the young, old, traditional and progressives of Saudi society and her work was even showcased during the presidential visit of Donald Trump. The typeface itself is is actually mirrored and written from left to right which means it isn’t so much for reading but more about the captivating aesthetic of the bold brush strokes. It also gives Mawadah the freedom to express herself with words that others can’t always see. The work is progressive – a word that Mawadah uses to describe herself in her online bio, but this doesn’t mean that the artist isn’t devoted to her heritage.

Born out of a quest to layer the heritage of Arabic letters with innovative graffiti art methods, her work dares to be the first of its kind, granting her Dubai’s Art Bus competition award and a chance to show her work at exclusive showcases.

Mawadah Muhtasib is a progressive Saudi Artist and a Graphic Designer from Jeddah. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Motion Graphics from Dar AlHekma University in Saudi Arabia.  Mawadah was recognized nationally and internationally; at an early age; for her distinguished paintings and has been celebrated by media and art initiatives for her calligraffiti typeface that she personally designed. She won art contests, participated in Saudi royal functions, travelled with her paintings across the globe, and was interviewed by media outlets to discuss her one of a kind calligraffiti typeface, and to praise her for her winnings and achievements.
