My non-Tech Mom loves this Digital Tasbih because her counts are never lost. Alhumdulillah, Now she spends close to Four hours in dhikr everyday. Would you like to build your dhikr habit too? It’s completely free.

اَلْجَنَّةُ تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِ الْأُمَّهَاتِ
“Paradise lies beneath the feet of mothers.”

This powerful statement, though short in words, carries an ocean of meaning. It does not mean that Paradise is physically located under the feet of mothers. Rather, it is a metaphorical expression used in Arabic to emphasize utmost closeness, humility, and obedience.

The Prophet ﷺ is teaching that the path to Paradise passes through serving one’s mother, honoring her, and fulfilling her rights with patience, gentleness, and love.

Why mothers?

Because no human relationship involves sacrifice like motherhood.

  • She endures pain during pregnancy and childbirth
  • She gives sleepless nights, constant worry, and lifelong care
  • Often, her sacrifices go unnoticed and unrewarded in this world

Islam places the mother at such a high rank that serving her sincerely becomes a means of earning Allah’s pleasure, and Allah’s pleasure is the key to Jannah.

The phrase “under her feet” also teaches humility. It means lowering oneself, removing pride, and serving with gentleness — even when it is difficult.

This Hadith aligns perfectly with the Qur’anic command:

“And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy.”
(Surah Al-Isra 17:24)

Sometimes a short pause to remember Allah brings clarity and steadiness back into our day. These reflections are simple reminders from my own journey.

Thus, honoring one’s mother is not merely good manners — it is an act of worship.

Lessons Learnt from the Hadith

1. Obedience to the mother leads to Paradise

Serving and obeying the mother in matters that are permissible is a direct path toward Jannah.

2. Respect must continue throughout her life

The Hadith does not limit respect to childhood. A mother deserves honor at every stage of life, especially in old age.

3. Patience with mothers is rewarded by Allah

Even if a mother becomes demanding, emotional, or difficult, patience with her is a form of worship that earns immense reward.

4. Small acts count greatly

Speaking kindly, helping her, listening to her, or making du‘a for her — these simple actions can outweigh many voluntary deeds.

5. Disrespect to the mother is a grave loss

Neglecting or hurting one’s mother closes a door to Paradise that may never reopen.

6. Jannah is earned through character, not status

This Hadith teaches children that Paradise is not earned through power or wealth, but through love, service, and humility.
