Speaking etiquette from Quran :How to guard our tongue ? 14

Sahl bin Sa`d (radiallahu anh) reported: The Messenger of Allah (salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said,“Whosoever gives me a guarantee to safeguard what is between his jaws and what is between his legs, I shall guarantee him Jannah.”
[Al-Bukhari]

The Messenger (S.A.W.) warned us about the seriousness of guarding our tongue. The prophet said, in an authentichadithreported by Imams At-Tirmithi and Ibn-Majah, that,

“A person may say a word that is pleasing to Allah (S.W.T.) and he may not think much of it, but Allah (S.W.T.) will, (because of that word), bestow his pleasure upon him on the Day of Judgment, and a person may say a word that is displeasing to Allah (S.W.T.), and he may not think much of it, but Allah will have, (because of that word) put his wrath and anger on him on the Day of Judgment.”

Speaking can be dangerous. So, we should control it within the limits of Islam, guided by Allah (S.W.T.) and His Messenger Muhammad (S.A.W.).

Here are some Ayats of Quran that teaches us the manners of Speaking .The Quran teaches us to –

Speaking etiquette from Quran

Speak Truthfully-(Quran 3:17):

3.17.(They are) those who are patient ones, those who are true (in Faith, words, and deeds), and obedient with sincere devotion in worship to Allah. Those who spend [give the Zakat and alms in the Way of Allah] and those who pray and beg Allah’s Pardon in the last hours of the night.

Speak with Justice-(Quran 33:70)

33.70.O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth.

Speak Moderately(Quran 17:110)

17.110.Say (O Muhammadsaws): “Invoke Allah or invoke the Most Beneficent (Allah), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the same), for to Him belong the Best Names. And offer your Salat (prayer) neither aloud nor in a low voice, but follow a way between.

Speak Positively (Quran 2:83)

2.83.And (remember) when We took a covenant from the Children of Israel, (saying): Worship none but Allah (Alone) and be dutiful and good to parents, and to kindred, and to orphans and Al-Masakin(the poor), [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 10, Page 158 (Verse 9:60)] and speak good to people [i.e. enjoin righteousness and forbid evil, and say the truth about Muhammad Peace be upon him ], and perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat), and give Zakat. Then you slid back, except a few of you, while you are backsliders.

Speak Beautifully(Quran 17:53)

17.53.And say to My slaves (i.e. the true believers of Islamic Monotheism) that they should (only) say those words that are the best. (Because) Shaitan(Satan) verily, sows disagreements among them. Surely, Shaitan (Satan) is to man a plain enemy.

Speak Gently(Quran 17:28)

17.28.And if you (O Muhammadsaws) turn away from them (kindred, poor, wayfarer, etc. whom We have ordered you to give their rights, but if you have no money at the time they ask you for it) and you are awaiting a mercy from your Lord for which you hope, then, speak unto them a soft kind word (i.e. Allah will give me and I shall give you).

Speek Deeply(Quran 4:63)

4.63.They (hypocrites) are those of whom Allah knows what is in their hearts; so turn aside from them (do not punish them) but admonish them, and speak to them an effective word (i.e. to believe in Allah, worship Him, obey Him, and be afraid of Him) to reach their innerselves.

Speak graciously (Quran17:23)

17.23.And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address them in terms of honour.

Speak Softly(Quran 20:44)

20.44.“And speak to him mildly, perhaps he may accept admonition or fear Allah.”

Speak effectively(Quran 33:32)

33.32.O wives of the Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allah), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery, etc.) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner.

Speak Humbly(Quran 23:3)

23.3.And those who turn away fromAl-Laghw(dirty, false, evil vain talk, falsehood, and all that Allah has forbidden)

Speak Bravely(Quran 20:27)

20.27.“And make loose the knot (the defect) from my tongue, (i.e. remove the incorrectness from my speech) [That occurred as a result of a brand of fire which Musa (Moses) put in his mouth when he was an infant].

Speak without a Lie(Quran 72:5)

72.5.‘And verily, we thought that men and jinns would not utter a lie against Allah.
