TAWAF IN HOVERBOARD: OPINION
width="694" height="390" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen">
I have seen some children in mecca using a hoverboard.And although I have picked this video from social media,it is not surprising to me as I have witnessed many unusual things during tawaf.The above video is of an unidentified man doing tawaf in a hoverboard,it is a common sight these days to see people walking with a selfie stick and may be in few years it will be a common sight to see people doing tawaf in a hoverboard.
While wheelchairs and other transport methods are allowed during tawaf for those who have a disability or are unable to walk, it is unclear whether hoverboards are permitted. The unusual means of travel has divided public opinion, with some claiming it was inappropriate to use the board at the sacred site.(Read that in the guardian)
Maybe the person had a legitimate reason or may be he just wanted to increase the number of his tawaf,no body knows.It is advised by muslim scholars not to judge this man on the Segway, but in no way could Islamic jurisprudence be used to justify this as normative practice. Indeed, it is very difficult to imagine a case where a person is able to mount and balance on a Segway but cannot walk.
Walking around k’aaba is a type of meditation,a concentration and a connection to Allah.Focussing on keeping balanced in a hoverboard,may take away a major part of concentration.
Although It really doesn’t matter to me if the other person is doing tawaf in a hoverboard or a cycle.We present ourself in the house of Allah to seek his forgiveness and not to judge others.This video is going viral in social media and some people fear if it is going to be a trend in the next generation.After no one checked the selfie sticks,if we don’t check the segway,I fear if ka’aba may be flooded by whirring Segways.
Do you think the hoverboard is a good use of modern-day technology? Or is it just taking the easy way out? Tell us in the comment box..
