These Conversations About the Quran by Teenagers Should Make Every Muslim Parent PauseThese Conversations About the Quran Should Make Every Muslim Parent Pause
I came across a discussion where teenagers were talking about the Quran.
Not about loving it or finding comfort in it or turning to it for guidance.
Instead, they were saying things like:
“I was taught to read it, but never understand it.”
“Why should I memorize what I don’t know the meaning of?”
“I forgot the surahs I memorized because they never meant anything to me.”
“Reading Arabic feels tedious because I don’t understand what I’m reading.”
As Muslim parents, teachers, and educators, these words should make us uncomfortable.
Because these are not children who hate the Quran.
These are children who were never shown its beauty.
They were taught how to pronounce the words, but not always what Allah was saying to them.
They learned to recite, but not to connect.
They memorized, but did not always understand.
And when understanding is missing, love often struggles to grow.
Allah did not reveal the Quran merely to be recited. He repeatedly calls us to reflect, ponder, and understand.
“Do they not then reflect upon the Quran?” (Surah Muhammad 47:24)
Imagine your child knowing that Allah is speaking directly to them.
Imagine them understanding why prophet Musa عليه السلام was tested, why Prophet Yusuf عليه السلام remained patient, why Maryam عليها السلام was honored, and why Allah reminds us of Jannah and Jahannam.
Imagine the Quran becoming their source of answers in a world full of confusion.
That connection begins with understanding.
Yes, teaching children to read the Quran is important.
Yes, memorization has tremendous virtue.
But alongside recitation and hifdh, children need meaning.
The heartbreaking reality is that many children are becoming atheist. As a mother of a teenager, I talk with other moms and talk with children to understand their world.
They need Quran explained in language they can understand. The children are becoming atheist. It is a harsh but reality. In this day and age children need engaging, motivating session where they understand the Quran. not just recite it.They need stories, lessons, and reflections that make the Quran come alive in their hearts.
Let’s not wait until they become teenagers asking, “What’s the point if I don’t understand it?”
Let’s help them build a relationship with the Quran today.
Give Your Child the Gift of Understanding
At quran.islamhashtag.com, we have created tafsir for Kids to help children connect with the Quran in a simple, engaging, and age-appropriate way.
Children don’t just learn what the verses say—they learn what Allah wants them to understand and how those lessons apply to their lives.
Because when a child understands the Quran, they are far more likely to love it.
And a child who loves the Quran will carry it in their heart long after lessons, exams, and childhood memories have faded.
I teach Tafsir to children in a different way because the biggest purpose of my tafsir class is to protect the iman of my children and all muslim children. I understand children these days have a short concentration span, many are hyperactive and so my way of teaching is different. Let us see what is different.
Tafsir for Kids – Quran Islam Hashtag
- We start with children logging in and putting their intention in the intention board.
- I explain the children the meaning of Quranic ayah and ask them to underline few words in their mushaf.
- I have designed this special Juz 29 learning platform for them where they can even play the ayah and listen to the Qari, reflect.
- After studying I take them to vocab page and flip the words and we try to learn the meaning
- On some days we do crosswords and on some days we do match the following
- After that we go to discussion board and we discuss.
- Children write their reflections, the ayah that touched them and they discuss amongs themself and earn points being creative, sending homeworks and motivating each other.
Alhumdulillah, the children are punctual and they are always eager to attend.
Currently the Batch is LIVE at 4:30 pm Saudi time- 45 mins session. (Girls 8-18)
We can have another timing for Boys Batch, If we have few more students.
If you know someone who may be looking for a class like this for their children please share this as a sadaqa e Jariya. I
May Allah make the children of Ummah among the people of the Quran—those who recite it, understand it, live by it, and love it. Ameen.
