Muhammad Naquib Ajmal, a 26-year-old with autism, recently showcased that determination can triumph over challenges by earning his degree in Quranic Studies at UniPSAS.

At the university’s convocation ceremony, he not only received his degree but was also honored with a special award from the Pahang royal family for his outstanding achievements.

His journey to success was not easy. Diagnosed with autism at an early age, Muhammad Naquib faced challenges in social interaction and communication. However, his remarkable memory and dedication to his studies set him apart. His family and teachers played a crucial role in supporting him throughout his educational journey, with his parents emphasizing their belief in his potential despite the obstacles he faced.

One of Muhammad Naquib’s most notable accomplishments is memorizing the Quran, a task that requires immense focus and commitment. His passion for Quranic studies led him to excel not only in academics but also in religious pursuits. His next goal is to participate in Quran recitation competitions, further demonstrating his commitment to his faith and learning.

Grateful for the support of his parents and educators, Naquib acknowledged their role in his success. “Without their support, I might not have graduated or received this award today… I am truly thankful,” said Naquib, who is now an instructor at the Akademi Syahadah Tahfiz Al-Faizin in Kuala Selangor.

His parents, Mohd Jamal Nasir Ismail and Anita Elias, reflected on his journey, recalling the difficulties after his autism diagnosis at age seven.

“He didn’t make eye contact and was slow in speech; he only started speaking Malay at nine, though not fluently. Interestingly, he knew more words in English and Arabic,” said Anita, an Islamic Education teacher.

His parents see his accomplishments as blessings from Allah, with his mother and father expressing their pride in their son’s achievements. They hope that his story can inspire others, especially those with similar challenges, to believe in their abilities and pursue their dreams.

The recognition at the convocation serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance, and Muhammad Naquib’s success has become an inspiration for many. His story underscores the importance of providing support and encouragement to individuals with autism, enabling them to reach their full potential.

Through his accomplishments, Muhammad Naquib exemplifies the idea that with faith, hard work, and a supportive environment, individuals with autism can overcome limitations and achieve greatness.
